Forms of Migration

Falschrum will present a colorful line-up of readings, talks, and multi-media performances on Forms of Migration,

on Friday, June 26, at 7 p.m. at Silent Green in Berlin-Wedding.

Forms of Migration is a book series exploring how art and literature shape our understanding of global migration. Volume 1, published in 2022 by Falschrum, is a rich collection of essays, poetry, creative nonfiction, interviews, photography and visual art highlighting global perspectives on im/migrant art and culture. It comprises analyses of literature, diasporic fashion, cinema, music, and mixed media installations, as well as photographic work, collages, drawings, and performances turned into writing. Volume 2, forthcoming in 2026, is an equally diverse collection of material with a special focus on art and literature from Arab im/migrant contexts around the world. The series shows how innovative storytelling and artistic material offer a chance to apprehend migration differently, to grasp the complexity of migration processes and to challenge common perceptions of im/migrant experiences. During the event, moderated by co-editor Stefan Maneval, various artists and authors will present their contributions, reflecting the variety of forms of expression included in the two volumes:

Aya Sammani will read "The Road, Longer than the Journey Itself,” the story of a breath-taking escape on the back of a pickup truck on its way through the desert;

the Berlin-based design studio Eps51 will present their multilingual and multiscriptural design practice, as well as their design concept for the Forms of Migration series;

Thaer Ayoub will read "Ich heimate mich hier / I now home myself here,” a poem on the ambiguity and hybridity of im/migrant belonging;

Mati Shemoelof will read a selection of poems, gathered under the topic of "Yiddish Sound, Deutsche Words,” followed by a conversation on the “new syncretic linguistic realities” of our time;

Wendy M. K. Shaw will perform “Migrations,” juxtaposing the global history of migration with current attempts to obstruct transnational migration movements, in a poetic reading accompanied by a slide show.
