This year again, we can look forward to two days full of discussions, workshops, talks, readings, and of course, plenty of music. This is Jutta's Festival. For the third time, we invite you to the Neuendorf im Sande estate, near Fürstenwalde in Brandenburg.
Organizational details are at the bottom; here is the complete program:
Friday, July 17
4:00 PM Meeting point at the Ohr.
Guided tour on Jewish history.
From 1932, the estate, known as "Landwerk Neuendorf," was a Jewish training farm. Originally founded with the aim of integrating unemployed Jewish youth into the German labor market, the training objective shifted to emigration after the Nazis seized power on January 30, 1933. From 1941, the estate served as a forced labor and deportation camp. A guided tour on the history with Julia Cartarius.
4 PM – 6 PM Fire Department
Tent Pottery for the Lizard Paradise
On a fallow field at the Neuendorf im Sande estate, a lizard paradise is gradually being created thanks to the initiative of the Naturschutz im Sande e.V. (Nature Conservation in Sande Association) and with the help of nature conservation experts. This paradise will provide fantastic conditions not only for our little friends. We will be making pottery to expand the "Nature Conservation Sculpture Park."
A workshop with Robert Abts, LandKunstLeben e.V.
4:00 PM – 5:30 PM Bullenstall:
How to deal with far-right attacks in the community?
With the rise of a far-right party in state and local elections, attacks by far-right extremists have also increased in the municipality of Steinhöfel. How are the victims, as well as civil society and local politicians, dealing with this?
Discussion with Arnold Bischinger (Kulturscheune Neuendorf), Markus Haastert (Thierbachshof Steinhöfel), Rahel Rietzl (pastor), and Ines Kramarić (Haus des Wandels Heinersdorf). Moderated by Tanja Tricarico
5:30 p.m. – 6:45 p.m. Fire Department Tent:
Esther's Traces – Reading with Benet Lehmann.
Esther Bejarano was deported from Neuendorf to Auschwitz in April 1943 as a young girl. She survived and later dedicated her life to anti-fascism and raising awareness. In May 2021, six weeks before her death, she played her last concert at the Neuendorf estate. Benet Lehmann, born in 1997, researched Esther's story, spoke with her often as long as possible, and wrote a book about her. We will hear excerpts from it and discuss the essence and purpose of remembrance today. Moderated by Bernd Pickert
5:30 p.m. – 6:45 p.m. Bullenstall
Presenting Bridges גשרים Brücken الجسور
the Israeli-Palestinian literary magazine
(English only)
“ Bridges ” was born out of a simple question Mati Shemoelof and Yosi Lampel asked themselves in Berlin: what can be done from here, while Gaza is destroyed and the West Bank sinks deeper into crisis. The two had met in Israel while documenting home demolitions in the West Bank and the Jordan Valley — Mati through “Rabbis for Human Rights”, Yosi as an activist with Dharma Social Engagement. Together with Thaer Ayoub, a Palestinian-Syrian poet, they founded the magazine. Today they will read some poems and texts from the magazine and have a conversation about the current situation in the West Bank and their shared work — how three people from different backgrounds ended up making something together, and why.
From 6 pm onwards,
dinner will be served in the food tent, featuring delicious, mostly vegan cuisine!
