A Multilingual Literary Magazine for Solidarity, Art & Community

Bridges גשרים Brücken الجسور is a multilingual literary and cultural magazine created in Berlin to bring together writers, poets and artists across languages, cultures and borders.

The magazine was founded by Mati Shemoelof, Yosi Lampel and Thaer Ayoub as a space for literature, art, political reflection and solidarity. Bridges brings together Palestinian, Arab-Jewish, Israeli and international voices and publishes poetry, fiction, essays, visual art and other forms of cultural expression.

The magazine grew out of a question: what can writers and artists do from Berlin in a time of war, displacement and political crisis? Rather than accepting the separation of people into fixed national and political categories, Bridges creates a space for encounters between different histories, languages and perspectives.

Editorial Work

As one of the editors and founders of Bridges, I work on the literary and cultural programme of the magazine, including selecting and editing texts, developing themes and working with writers and artists.

The magazine is published in several languages and connects literary work with questions of migration, memory, identity, solidarity and political imagination.

Volume 1

The first issue of Bridges was devoted to Clean Shelter, an organisation founded by Palestinian and Israeli women in Germany providing humanitarian aid to Gaza.

Volume 2

The second issue focuses on the situation in the West Bank and is dedicated to Palestinian grassroots organisations and their Israeli partners.

Volume 3

The third issue of Bridges is dedicated to Bnei Avraham, a Jewish religious left-wing organization whose members devote their time to protecting Palestinian farmers who struggle to access their land because of ongoing attacks by Jewish extremists.
