Diasporic Poetry in the Jewish Context

In 2026, I am teaching a creative writing masterclass at the Institut für Neue Soziale Plastik in Berlin as part of the Jewish School of Art.
Diasporic Poetry in the Jewish Context explores the relationship between diaspora, transnational identity and artistic expression. The masterclass asks how writing can help us understand identities that exist between places, languages and cultures, and how literature can challenge dominant narratives and create more complex ideas of belonging.
The course brings together critical discussion, reading, writing exercises and the development of individual creative projects.
The first part of the masterclass focuses on diaspora, hybridity, cultural memory, migration and identity. We look at how personal and collective histories shape the stories we tell, and how writing can create new forms of artistic expression.
The second part moves into the participants' own writing projects. Through writing exercises, discussion and individual feedback, participants develop their own texts and explore their personal and artistic perspectives.
The masterclass concludes with a presentation and discussion of the work developed during the course.
The masterclass is conducted in English. Participants can write in English, German or Hebrew.
