“Coexistence, My Ass!” — Interview with Noam Shuster-Eliassi

In September 2026, I interviewed Israeli comedian and activist Noam Shuster-Eliassi for Die Weltbühne.

Shuster-Eliassi grew up in Neve Shalom/Wahat al-Salam, a community founded as a shared space for Jewish and Palestinian citizens of Israel. After working as a peace activist, she turned to stand-up comedy, using humor, satire and performance to address questions of identity, conflict, equality and coexistence.

Our conversation took place in Neve Shalom while she was preparing for a European tour. We spoke about her life and work, the limits and possibilities of comedy, the idea of coexistence, and the experience of communicating with audiences across linguistic, political and cultural boundaries.

The interview was published in Die Weltbühne on 15 September 2026 under the title “Coexistence, My Ass!” It accompanies the discussion around Amber Fares’s documentary of the same name, which follows Shuster-Eliassi’s development as a comedian and performer.
